We Are Dukes: Preparing for Rising Freshmen Academic Information Night
Our newest episode of We Are Dukes, hosted by Dr. Hurt, provides families with a helpful preview of what to expect at Rising Freshmen Academic Information Night, coming up on Monday, December 1. We are excited to welcome our future Dukes and their families to York for this important milestone event.
This night offers an overview of the transition from middle school to high school, including key upcoming dates, academic pathways, course recommendations, and elective opportunities available to incoming freshmen. Because parking is limited, we kindly encourage families to attend during their assigned alpha slice to help with parking and program flow.
The episode also features two current York students, who share their own experiences transitioning into high school — offering reassuring insight and practical tips for new freshmen and their families.
For current District 205 students, families will receive initial course placements for core classes — English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Language — via email next week. Students with IEPs will continue discussing placements through articulation meetings. These placements will include a link to York’s website, where families can explore information about course selection, elective videos, and the full Program of Studies. All of this information will also be reviewed in detail on December 1 to ensure every family feels prepared for course selection meetings with York counselors in December (Churchville 12/8, Sandburg 12/9, Bryan 12/11).
This We Are Dukes episode is a great way to get a head start on the process and hear directly from students and staff about the exciting transition ahead.
