Fine Arts Week and York Live

Fine Arts Week, also known as FAW, is a week-long annual celebration of the arts that dates back more than 30 years. It usually happens sometime in February or March. The week is filled with special events and performances, most held during the school day. Past FAWs have included performances by professional musicians, popup concerts by York bands and soloists, guest speakers, a York string quartet welcoming students into the building before school, poets, a student art fair, sketch comedy groups... just to name a few examples. It's an exciting and enriching week that everyone can enjoy whether they be artists or audience members. Teachers register their classes to attend events during the school day. Students who want to attend an event that their class is not registered for should talk with their teacher to see if attendance is possible. FAW culminates in the very popular evening event called York Live.

York Live is an annual showcase for student performers, held in the evening during FAW. It is open to the public. All students are welcome to audition. Students do not need to be enrolled in a Performing Arts class to get involved. Auditions usually happen in February with the performance date sometime in March. Past performers have included rock bands, classical music groups, comedians, rappers, dancers, etc. Positions are also available for students who want to help behind the scenes with stage management, audio-visual support, and more.
