8th Grade Transitions
December 4th, 2019 6:15pm -- 8th Grade Activity Night and Academic Night - combined!
PREPARING 8TH GRADERS FOR LIFE AT YORK
York's 8th Grade Activity & Academic Night is designed to give 8th grade students and parents some help getting their arms around the terrific academic and extracurricular environment at York High School.
Each academic, athletic, performing arts, service and social club has a table with student representatives to provide information about the club. It is the perfect time to ask questions and think about what clubs the student may wish to join in the Fall.
Visit as many tables as possible to uncover the ones that are distributing PTSA Academic Committee raffle tickets! They can be returned to the Academic Committee table to be entered into a raffle to win York spirit items. And the Academic Committee can answer all kinds of questions you may have, such as:
- How does my student fit in all their classes and activities?
- What do all those acronyms mean? AP? PSAT? NMSQT?
- What kind of resources are available to help my student prepare for high school?
When parents enter the school, they receive a copy of The Academic Committee's publication Making the Most of York: A Parent-to-Parent Guide (the online version is linked to navigate chapters and subpages). It delivers “insider” information about how to make the most of a student’s academic career at York. They will also receive our Monthly Checklist, which is broken down by grade level to guide them as they go through the school year.
To get the most out of this night, we recommend that students visit as many tables as possible to hear first-hand about all the extra-curricular activities offered.
The 8th Grade Activity Fair is the perfect time for 8th graders and their parents to
"get their feet wet" at York. Check it out and get involved!
