Homecoming Week Information - September 16 - 20
Homecoming Week is coming up fast! Student Council has been working incredibly hard to create a fantastic week for everyone. We want to highlight this week’s activities and make sure you are aware of the details related to upcoming events.
Theme Days and Lunch Activities - September 16 - 20
Each day will be a different spirit day where students and staff are encouraged to dress up according to the theme. These themes will be posted throughout the building once we have finalized them. Student Council will also be hosting lunch time activities such as musical chairs, a DJ, Amateur Musicians Club performances and a Pie Eating contest. These events will take place in the commons during the lunch periods and is a great tradition that helps spread school spirit during the week.
Powder Puff – September 18
Each year the Senior and Junior girls participate in a friendly flag football game on the Wednesday night of homecoming week. It is a great event to help kickoff the week, so please plan to attend at 6:30pm on Wednesday, September 18th at the Stadium. Everyone is welcome to this free event.
Pep Assembly – September 20
We will hold our pep assembly at 2:30 on Friday, September 20th in the green and white gym. At this assembly, the winning team is named Queens or Kings of the Couch and they will sit on an old beat-up, green couch at the football game Friday night and have refreshments served by staff! Parents who are attending, please do not sit in the bleachers. The bleachers are needed for the students. We will have seats available for parents on the perimeter of the gym.
Football Game - September 20
Please join us for our Homecoming football game against Lyons Township High School, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. in the Stadium. The sophomores play at 5:00. Admission to the game if $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for senior citizens and children/students. York students are free with their student ID. Our Athletic Boosters will host concessions and sell Duke gear! Reminder: students will not be permitted to bring backpacks, large purses or water bottles into home football games. Athletes may keep their belongings in their athletic lockers during the game. When the game is over they may come back to the building to get their belongings. The building will remain locked during the varsity game.
Homecoming Dance – September 21
All students are invited to the Homecoming Dance on Saturday evening and must have their ID with them to enter. The dance runs from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Students must be in the doors by 8:00. The dress is semi-formal. Many of our students come alone, with a friend, or in a group--they do not need a date. Students must enter through the athletic entrance at door 5 and can be picked up anywhere in the front circle. Also, please note that we do not permit students to arrive or be picked up in a limousine, or party buses at York dances.
Tickets will go on sale this Friday, September 5th. They can be purchased through the bookstore for $20. Tickets purchased at the door will cost $25. Any student who is bringing a guest from another school must have a signed form from a dean before the end of the day on Friday, September 20th. These forms may be pick up in the YSS office.
Please remember that the students' safety is our first concern as an administration and staff. We want our students to make smart decisions before, during, and after the dance. If a student is found in possession of or under the influence of any illegal substances, vape pens or alcohol, parents will be contacted immediately and the student will be removed from the dance. Students who violate the school policy will face appropriate school actions in addition to removal from the dance and may lose participation privileges in future events including the winter dance, athletic events and/or prom.
