YORK MUSIC BOOSTERS

Newsletter #120722

CALLING ALL TALENTED, CREATIVE YORK STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR END-OF-YEAR LOGO CONTEST!

We need your help creating a logo for an exciting new venture of York Music Boosters, and we have created an end-of-year contest — including prizes — that is open for all students to participate.

This logo is needed as part of our plans to begin selling merchandise that raises funds for YMB, helps expand our work on behalf of York Performing Arts students, and allows all of us to show our support for our amazing York students and teachers. This logo will be a prominent part of our efforts to sell the merchandise. The first-place prize is $75 in new York Performing Arts merchandise of the winning entrant’s choice. We also will offer $25 in merchandise for worthy, runner-up entries.

To get those creative juices flowing, here are some general parameters for the logo contest:

1. Logo should reference/incorporate all parts of York’s Performing Arts program: choir, band, dance, music production and orchestra.
2. Logo should be in black and white.
3. We allow flexibility in how the logo is presented (hand-drawn or digital design).
4. Submit entries by Dec. 31 to this email address.

The YMB Board will vote on the contest winters, and has the discretion to take components of all submissions to create a final one. Questions about the contest? Please contact Lisa Pingel.

GRAMMY-WINNING PERCUSSION GROUP COMING TO YORK
Third Coast Percussion will visit York band classes on January 13. This energetic award-winning ensemble will inspire, perform, and do Q&A with students.

ADVANCED DANCE STUDENTS ON THE MOVE

On October 22, dance students took a field trip to the Illinois High School Dance Festival hosted at Riverside Brookfield High School. Students participated in four different classes taught by professional dance artists from the Chicagoland area and watched a performance by professional dance company Hot Crowd. It was a blast! Photos are from that field trip.

In other dance news, students from the Advanced Dance class are working with guest artist Katie Rafferty from Giordano Dance Chicago. Selected high school dance groups in Chicago's suburbs are paired with a Giordano Dance Company member to create an original work and perform in a shared show at Barrington High School on January 21. The group looks forward to sharing the piece in January and again at their concert in March.

"YORK LIVE" AUDITIONS COMING IN FEBRUARY
Winter break is a great time for students to start thinking about Fine Arts Week (FAW)! York Live auditions will be held February 7 - 8 and are open to all students. Past acts have included jazz ensembles, rock bands, comedians, rappers, dancers, and more. Signups will start shortly after winter break. Learn more about FAW and York Live.

FALL DANCE CONCERT STILL STREAMING
This amazing dance concert from mid-November is still available on the YTV Productions YouTube Channel. The evening featured Advanced Dance, York Dance Company, a collaboration with York's Symphony Orchestra, and more.
