AS.IS

MISSION STATEMENT
ASoIS stands for "Accepting Sexual Orientation In School". This organization is a gender-sexuality alliance in which students and faculty can discuss ways of respecting sexual orientation and gender identity in school. The primary goals of AS.IS are to:

1. Reduce homophobic and anti-trans behavior.
2. Combat bigotry.
3. Build compassion and respect among the York community.

ASoIS has existed at York since the 1998-99 school year. It became an official club in 1999. In that time the overall school climate and behavior toward LGBT+ students and those perceived as LGBT +has improved, though there is still room for growth. AS.IS members will continue to work with all members of the York community to foster positive and healthy relationships among and between all members of our school, city, and society as a whole.
