2016 IHSA Sectional Champions
Water polo is a fast-paced, physical, and exciting team sport that is quickly gaining popularity in Illinois. It can be described as a mix of basketball, hockey, and soccer - but it takes place in the water. At one time, each team enters six "field" players and one goalie. The point of the game is to score goals on the opponent (and not let the other team score on you).
At York, we have made great strides over the past few seasons. In 2016, we were won our IHSA Sectional Tournament and advanced to the State Tournament for the first time since 2008. We took second place in conference in 2016 after placing 3rd in 2013, 2014, and 2015. With lots of experience returning this year, we expect even more success in 2017.
There is no experience necessary when trying out for water polo. We teach new players the game when they come out for water polo freshmen year, and our goal is to have each player ready to compete at the varsity level by the time they begin their junior season.
